The Society of St Vincent de Paul is a world wide organisation of Catholic lay people. Its members express their Christian faith in a practical way by providing help, material, spiritual and emotional, to all those in need, on a person-to-person basis. The Society has been providing this charitable work in the city of Perth and surrounding areas for over 160 years and, although much has changed since, the need for the Society is still very relevant today. Membership is open to all Catholics overthe age 16, men and women alike.
The Society operates via Conferences established within parishes. St Mary Magdalene’s Conference is twinned with St John the Baptist Conference and meets fortnightly on Monday evenings in St John’s Church Hall. We are engaged in a variety of charitable works – assisting the homeless, home and hospitalvisits to the sick and so on. For instance we recently set up, in co-operation with the local foodbank, a scheme to help vulnerable families with their energy costs. If you are interested in joining the Society and helping in its work, please speak to your Parish Priest, who will put you in touch with a local member of the Society.
